Help
From handmade variations and candle sand to delivery and looking after your piece, you’ll find the answers to our most common questions here.
The pieces
Yes. Every Wild Flamingo piece is poured, finished and prepared by hand in South Africa.
Because of the handmade process, no two pieces will ever be exactly the same. Small variations in colour, pattern, texture and finish are part of what makes each piece unique.
Not necessarily, and that’s part of the fun.
Patterns and colours move differently with every pour, so your piece may vary slightly from the photographs shown online. The overall colourway and style will remain the same, but the exact pattern will be uniquely yours.
Our bowls and trays are made using an acrylic resin composite which creates a solid, stone-like finish without the weight of traditional stone or concrete.
Each piece is individually poured, sanded, sealed and finished by hand.
Quite a lot.
Use it to hold perfume or skincare, jewellery and everyday bits and pieces. Style it on a coffee table, bedside table or bathroom counter, use it with candle sand or simply let it sit there looking lovely.
That’s one of our favourite things about these pieces. They don’t have to do just one job.
We don’t recommend using Wild Flamingo pieces for serving or storing food.
While the material used to make our pieces is non-toxic and the inside of our bowls is sealed, our finished pieces have not been tested or certified for food contact. Oils and strongly coloured foods may also mark the surface.
We think they’re much happier holding your jewellery, perfume, skincare, candle sand and all those little things that need somewhere beautiful to live.
A little water is absolutely fine. You can wipe your piece with a damp cloth and everyday splashes shouldn’t be a problem.
We don’t recommend submerging your piece in water, soaking it or using it to hold water for prolonged periods.
If your piece gets wet, simply wipe it dry with a soft cloth.
Candles
Selected Wild Flamingo bowls can be used with candle sand.
For the best results, make sure there is a generous layer of candle sand between the wick and the base of the bowl and don’t burn your candle for longer than 3 hours at a time.
Our full Care Guide covers candle sand levels, wick placement, fragrance, safe burning and what to do if wax sticks to your bowl.

No. Our candle sand is unscented, which means you can enjoy it as it is or add fragrance when you feel like it.
Before lighting, you can add approximately 5 drops of candle-safe fragrance oil around the wick and allow it to absorb into the candle sand.
Never add fragrance oil while the candle is burning or while the wax or bowl is hot.
Yes.
Once the candle has been extinguished and everything has cooled completely, remove the hardened wax around the used wick. The remaining candle sand can be reused with a fresh wick.
Top up the candle sand when needed to maintain a generous layer between the wick and the bottom of the bowl.
Care
For everyday cleaning, wipe your piece with a soft, slightly damp cloth. A little mild soap can be used for marks or spills.
Avoid harsh cleaning products, abrasive sponges, the dishwasher and microwave.
From time to time, you can refresh the finish with a small amount of natural furniture wax, such as Wax-It-All. Avoid liquid furniture polishes and spray-on products.

Custom pieces
Absolutely. If you have a particular colour, combination or piece in mind, get in touch and tell us what you’re looking for.
Because every piece is made by hand, what’s possible will depend on the design, colour and materials involved. We’ll let you know if we can make it happen and take it from there.
Custom pieces are made especially for you, so we’ll confirm the price, timing and any applicable terms before you place your order.
