Care guide

Made to be enjoyed,
with a little care.

Your Wild Flamingo piece is made by hand and designed for everyday living. A few simple habits will help keep it looking its best.

01

Everyday cleaning

Wipe your piece with a soft, slightly damp cloth. For marks or spills, use a little mild soap and wipe dry afterwards.

Avoid abrasive sponges, scourers and harsh cleaning products as these may scratch or dull the surface.

To refresh the finish from time to time, apply a small amount of natural furniture wax, such as Wax-It-All, with a soft cloth. Buff gently to help protect the surface and bring back its lustre.

Avoid liquid furniture polishes and spray-on products.

02

Heat and sunlight

Keep your piece away from direct heat sources such as stovetops, heaters and very hot objects.

Prolonged exposure to strong, direct sunlight may affect the colour over time, so we recommend keeping your piece out of harsh sun where possible.

03

Using your bowl with candle sand

Selected Wild Flamingo bowls can be used with candle sand to create a beautiful, reusable candle.

Fill the bowl with enough candle sand to create a generous layer between the wick and the base of the vessel, then position the wick securely.

We recommend leaving approximately 5–10 mm of wick exposed above the candle sand. The total length of the wick will depend on the depth of your bowl.

Make sure enough wick remains above the candle sand. If the wick is too short, it may eventually fall into the melted wax and extinguish itself.

Keep an eye on the melt pool

For best results, burn your candle for no longer than 3 hours at a time. Longer burns can create a larger melt pool which may reach the sides or bottom of the bowl and cause melted wax to stick to the surface.

Make sure there is always enough candle sand in the bowl before lighting. If the layer is too shallow, the melt pool may reach the bottom of the vessel and the wax may stick to the surface.

Avoid using too many wicks at once. Multiple wicks create more heat and a larger melt pool which may reach the sides of the bowl. For larger vessels, only use the number of wicks recommended for that particular bowl.

Always place your candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface away from draughts, children, pets and anything that could catch fire. Never leave a burning candle unattended.

Extinguish the flame completely and allow the wax and bowl to cool before handling.

Reusing your candle sand

Once everything has cooled, remove the hardened wax around the used wick. The remaining candle sand can then be reused with a fresh wick.

Top up your candle sand when needed to maintain a generous layer between the wick and the bottom of the bowl.

Want to add fragrance?

Our candle sand is unscented, which means you can choose when you’d like to add fragrance.

Before lighting, add approximately 5 drops of candle-safe fragrance oil around the wick and allow it to absorb into the candle sand.

Only use fragrance oil that is suitable for candle use. Never add fragrance oil while the candle is burning or while the wax or bowl is hot.

If wax sticks to your bowl

If melted wax reaches the sides or bottom of your bowl, allow the candle and bowl to cool completely before trying to remove it.

Gently loosen the hardened wax from the surface. Avoid using sharp metal tools which may scratch or damage the finish.

If the wax doesn’t release easily, don’t force it. Gently warming the wax can help soften it enough to remove, but avoid exposing the bowl to excessive or concentrated heat.

Once the wax has been removed, wipe the bowl clean according to the care instructions. You can apply a little natural furniture wax afterwards to refresh the finish if needed.

When you’re ready for a change, clean your bowl and give it a completely different job around your home.

What to avoid

Do not place your piece in the dishwasher or microwave and avoid soaking it in water for long periods.

Take care not to drop it or knock it against hard surfaces as this may chip or damage the piece.

Avoid placing extremely hot items directly onto the surface.
